Released in 1977 and recorded at Sunset Sound Studios in Los Angeles, "Bareback" was my first album with Capitol Records after leaving Shelter Records with whom I had three releases. You can't imagine the excitement I was experiencing. Here I was, a small town boy, rubbing elbows with some of the finest studio musicians Los Angeles had to offer.
What could be better than working with Bill Payne at my producer's home in the Hollywood Hills writing out charts and arrangements while discussing who would be a better drummer for this particular song, Jeff Porcaro or Harvey Mason. It was like finally having enough money to buy a top of the line vehicle and now having to decide between a Mercedes or BMW. So, I got both!
The sessions were absolutely mind blowing. How fast and tight these players worked together and how supportive and positive they were will always be a pleasant memory.
