Beautiful and well-produced chamber/psych folk lp from Nashville. The music is soft and often melancholic, especially when driven by the small string section. The result is less psychedelic than the liner notes and the laconic and direct Hoover talking would suggest at first.
The LP is one of the few produced by Chuck Glaser from the band Tompall Glaser & The Glaser Brothers. Also worth mentioning the album front cover and his photographer, Bill Grine, who took many iconic cover photos for artists such as Johnny Cash, Tammy Wynette, Waylon Jennings…
“Willis Hoover was born in Jackson County, Missouri and raised in Lamoni, Iowa and Shenandoah, Iowa. After starting out as a coffeehouse folk singer as a teenager, Hoover moved to Nashville in the 1960s and became a songwriter. Later he became a recording artist for Monument Records, Epic Records, and Elektra Records in the late 1960s and early 1970s.”

ReplyDeleteThis album was never re-issued on any digital format. why is there a cd picture on the post ?
ReplyDeleteHi Chip, I don't know who you are and really I don't care, you obviously haven't heard the specific version, if you had then you would noticed that’s not from a vinyl transfer (even if it was it wouldn't matter), now if you have involved with this album, as a producer, sound engineer, technician etc, I'm sorry that they didn't ask you before they released it in digital format.. Thank you, Peace, Love Happiness..
Delete@chip
DeleteThere are two possibilities. It is a legitimate CD reissue of which you are unaware OR it is a counterfeit
Now look at the cat number on the CD pic - BN 26537
Compare that to the number on the LP - BN 26537
Finally ask yourself: How many official CDs get issued with the exact same cat number as on the LP from 40 years before?
Anonymous, I'm gonna ask maitre where he gets them from..
Deletethe answer from maitre is: "Don't Look a Gift Horse in the Mouth"
Delete@marios That was the implication of my answer.
DeleteQuite clearly some CD "reissues" are remastered from vinyl. Some come from official companies like Sundazed and others from unofficial labels like Fallout. The trouble is I can't tell which is going to be better. Puzzle by Mandrake Memorial came out on two labels. The official label on Collectables was a needle drop but it was outclassed by the unofficial MM label version.
In this case it's clearly a counterfeit but does it matter? If you are generous enough to give your time and money to host then the downloader, is at worst downloading something they subsequently choose to delete.
So as your supplier says....
Thanks for continuing to host
Thank you both!
ReplyDeletethe only question remained unsolved here , is why a simple question from a blog follower regarding a technical matter with no insinuation, will turn up such heat from the distinguished blog editor, that apparently took things a little bit to personally. But in your own words Marios, since you don't know me & you really don't care, don't bother to answer. Thank you, Peace, Love Happiness..
Hi Chip, take a good look at your question and tell how simple it was from a blog follower... "This album was never re-issued on any digital format. why is there a cd picture on the post ?"
DeleteI run my blogs for more than 12 years now, I have to deal with any kind of users and comments, so I really don't care for anything anymore, even if my blogs will shut down....
DeleteSplendid album, nonetheless, in the singer/songwriter field. Small touches of baroque (reminded me of Appaloosa among others), solid songwriting and production. A very good surprise. Thanks Marios.
ReplyDeleteMany thanks Marios. This is simply wonderful and sounds great to my ears. Do not care at all where does this come from. Please keep up the excellent work you do, I found so many records on your site that I was unable to find anywhere else and in excellent sound quality. And this comes from somebody who buys tons of physical product and surely I would buy this stuff in I ever come across it. Now heading to listen to the Karen Beth uploads which are also a favorite of mine, especially the debut. Take care and thanks again
